Mesenbet is partner at 5A Law Firm LLP, one of the leading law firms in Ethiopia. He earned his LL.B from Bahir Dar University in 2006 and graduated with distinction. He received his LLM from University of Pretoria in 2008 and his PhD from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2017. Mesenbet has extensive experience in business law, international law, private international law, privacy law, law and technology, labour law, , media law and many other diverse areas of law. Mesenbet has served in numerous positions including as Head of the School of Law Addis Ababa University, National Legal Reform Council member, and currently as President of the Pan-African Legal Network on Food & Nutrition (PALNEF). Mesenbet has published in numerous international and local journals. He has presented his research findings in leading centers of excellence including at Yale School of Law, London School of Economics, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, University of Pretoria and University of Seville. He was one of the few legal experts assigned to draft the media law and computer crime law. Mesenbet has also extensive experience in consulting governmental, inter-governmental organizations including the UN, IGAD and non-governmental organizations at various levels. He has also researched on Ethiopia’s business climate extensively including a major research study on public sector governance and its implications to private sector development which was sponsored by the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce. Mesenbet also served as a committee member in the National Legal Reform Council of Ethiopia.
