Sole shareholder in the New York law firm of Wilson Jacobson, P.C

Leroy Wilson, Jr., is the sole shareholder in the New York law firm of Wilson Jacobson, P.C., concentrating in Trusts and Estates Litigation, Estate Planning and Civil Litigation.  Previously, he was in-house Counsel at IBM and Union Carbide Corp. He has extensive corporate and commercial law practice experience. He was the personal attorney to Godfrey L. Binaisa, the President of Uganda before during and after he was in office.  In 1999, Surrogate Emanuelli appointed Mr. Wilson as Acting Surrogate in Westchester County where he presided over, and resolved, a complicated contested accounting proceeding.  He closed his offices in White Plains, NY and has relocated to Botswana to offer legal, business and capacity-building consultancy services to businesspeople, African attorneys, and their clients in several African countries.  His Botswana-based consulting company is authorized to operate under the name LWJR Legal & Business Consulting.  Currently pending is his petition for an exemption to practice law in Botswana.

He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and to practice before the United States Supreme Court as well as multiple other federal jurisdictions. ALM and Martindale Hubbell selected him as one of New York's Top-Rated Lawyers for 2018. In 2022 Martindale-Hubbell listed him in their 2022 AV Preeminent Attorney - Judicial Edition.

He is a Life Member of the National Bar Association.  The NBA inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2011.  In 2020, the National Bar Association (NBA) honored him with the Ronald Harmon Brown International Distinction Award. (In 2022, the National Bar Association conferred this award on Hon. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank).

Throughout the years Mr. Wilson performed roles assisting in the liberation of black South Africans.  One of the most important being the role that he played in preventing New York State chartered banks from investing any of several billion dollars in real estate in South Africa, including mining operations.  He acted in his capacity as a public member of the New York State Banking Board.  He is the receipint of numerous awards and recognition from South Africa and other African countries.

In August 2010, he was the only American granted the honor of delivering one of the eulogies at the state funeral for H.E. Godfrey L. Binaisa, his longtime friend and late President of Uganda.

Mr. Wilson is a graduate of Morehouse College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, and double departmental honors in chemistry and in mathematics.  He is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and received his Master of Science in chemistry and his Juris Doctor degree in law from the University of California at Berkeley.
